Mitt Romney thinks that religion should not be brought up during the campaign.
True, we shouldn’t waste too much time on religion when there are more pressing things to discuss at the debates, like foreign policy and the economy. However, I think these questions are relevant to Romney’s competence as a Presidential candidate. Therefore, I have distilled them down to just a few simple yes/no questions so that we can quickly get them out of the way and then move on to unemployment and other pressing issues facing the nation.
Question: Mitt Romney, did you hold your right arm to the square and "promise before God, angels and witnesses" to "consecrate yourself, your time, talents and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion"?
Answer if Romney is not lying: Yes
Question: When you made this promise, did you mean it? Did you take it seriously?
Answer if Romney is not lying: Yes. Yes.
Question: Have you since forgotten about this promise? Or have you memorized it by repeating it hundreds of times, every time you attend the Mormon temple?
Answer if Romney is not lying: I have not forgotten. I have repeated it hundreds of times.
Question: If you were elected President of the United States
Answer if Romney is not lying: Yes
Question: When you participate in the “true order of prayer” in the Mormon temple, are all of the women (but not the men) in the room required to wear veils over their faces?
Answer if Romney is not lying: Yes
Question: When Thomas S. Monson was named President of the Mormon Church in April 2008, did you participate in a “Solemn Assembly” where you raised your right arm to the square and promised to sustain Monson?
Answer if Romney is not lying: Yes
Question: And does “sustain” in this context mean that you will follow the teachings of Monson, whatever they may be, because the Mormon Church teaches that the President of the Church will never lead you astray?
Answer if Romney is not lying: Yes
There are hundreds of past and present senators, congressmen cabinet members, governors etc. do you have a single example of your fears being founded in the actual actions of an elected official. If you were sincere, you would get packing now, because Harry Reid is also a Mormon and speaker of the house.

ReplyDeleteBeing speaker of the house is not the same thing as being President of the United States. The speaker of the house needs to convince other people to vote the same way in order to pass a bill. The President, on the other hand, has unilateral powers, such as executive orders and his position as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. Harry Reid is not the one who will decide when to push the red button to fire off the nuclear missiles. That's Mr. President's job.

ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter if Romney was in Utah for that particular session of General Conference. All good Mormons watch the conference on television or at a satellite feed at their local church building, if they can't be there in Utah in person. Even the Mormons who watch a broadcast from a distance raise their right hands and promise to sustain the new prophet. And it's not at a priesthood (men only) session. It's part of the general session so women and children can also pledge their allegiance to the new Church president.

Really think about it; the church teaches morals and standards without getting too into depth into the church's believes. Would you want a drunk as president? No! How about someone who could have cancer any day because they have a tobacco addiction? No! Would you have your kids look up to a man with a porn addiction or someone who cheated on his wife? Of course not!! I'm not trying to say that everyone except Mormons are addicts. I'm saying that Romney is simply a clean man with standards who loves our heavenly father and our country. He will not lead us into a cult society. That is obserd! The church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints is just a religion with very high standards and face alot of rumors and lies. They deserve the respect that all Americans deserve! And Romney will not lead us astray!
ReplyDeleteRick. You think that Romney is "a clean man with standards"? Then why won't he reveal his tax returns? What is he hiding? Given that even his 2010 tax returns reveal previously-undisclosed foreign accounts, his 2009 tax returns probably reveal that he took the amnesty to avoid FELONY charges of tax evasion for hidden Swiss bank accounts. But for the amnesty, he would be a FELON. That's a "clean man"? And how can you say he has standards? His standards change 180 degrees on a daily basis. He has no moral compass. He will say anything to get elected. He even got permission from LDS Church headquarters to change his position on abortion so he could get elected in Massachusetts. You and I both know the first lesson taught by the Book of Mormon, in First Nephi, is that it's okay to kill people (even an unconscious drunk who obviously cannot fight back) as long as it promotes the Mormon Church. The Mormon Motto should be "The ends justify the means." As Brigham Young's Great-Great-Granddaughter put it, "Lying has become an institutionalized method of administrative control within the [Mormon] church." (http://bit.ly/NZteM0) I suspect that you are not aware of it because you never question what Church leaders tell you. Yes, they tell you that the Church President will "never lead you astray." Apparently you haven't made an ounce of effort to find the thousands of ways that Church Presidents have lied, abused their power, and otherwise lead many astray. I pity your blind faith. It will only bring you pain and suffering, and cause you to inflict pain and suffering on those around you.
ReplyDeleteA Mormon can run for office. That is not in dispute. Mormons have some positive qualities but the lying thing overpowers those qualities frankly. What is most disturbing is that conservative "Christians" always use their morality to justify their positions (abortion, gay marriage, etc) but then turn their heads when you point out that the Holy Bible warns against anything coming after the scriptures. Don't take my word for it. Google what the Bible says about the Mormon faith (Bible verse, the Word of God folks). Mormons can do whatever they want and believe in anything they want but to be a Christian you simply "must" believe in what the Bible says. And it says your faith any any faith that contradicts its content is false and worse. So stop hiding behind the deceit of saying you are Christians. You are Mormons and even though you take some of the Bible as your own you don't take it in its entirety and thus deny the Bible. You therefore disqualify yourselves. Mormons are fond of saying they believe in the Bible "as long as it is interpreted correctly". We can argue some latitude in discussing verse but adding an entire new book (Book of Mormon) and saying it is the word of God when the Bible explicitly warns against such additions is offensive. Just call yourselves Mormons and be done with it.
